Our Story:
Pinup Girl Clothing was founded in Los Angeles in 1997 by Laura Byrnes, our founder and designer, and is a female-owned company. A photographer for over 30 years, Laura worked with musicians and artists before moving into dress making. What began as a means to make clothing for herself and her daughter turned into a movement. Laura created a real-world version of what she had seen on vintage pinup ephemera, essentially creating a style, Pinup, specializing in vintage-inspired clothing. She still designs our house collections today.
Laura takes her own mission of body positivity and inclusivity, the hallmarks of Pinup Clothing, and applies it very broadly. It is the embodiment of everything that she's believed in and stood for as a designer and as a woman. Pinupgirlclothing.com was the first company to do more than pay lip service to the idea that beauty is not a size, shape, color, gender, ability or age, and regularly features models from size XS to 5X to showcase their designs. “We believe that all women deserve the right to look and feel beautiful,” explains Byrnes. “Our clothing is made to empower women, allowing them to be the best versions of themselves.”
Made to order, on purpose.
Our house labels are made to order, a more sustainable way to make clothes. Our prints are printed to order, and every piece is cut and sewn just for you in our workshop once you order, so we make zero surplus. No racks of unsold dresses, and no water, fabric or energy spent on clothes nobody buys. Our workshop estimates its made-to-order process uses about 155 liters less water per garment than conventional manufacturing.
